Membership Info

The following are excerpts from Article Nos. V-VIII of the “Bye-Laws of the Zoological Society of Trinidad & Tobago Inc.”

Membership

The Society comprises full, associate, junior, life, corresponding and honorary members whose acceptance and privileges are subject to such conditions as the Council may approve. All new members must be proposed and seconded by a full member of the Society. Every applicant for membership of the Society must furnish with his application such particulars as the Council prescribes from time to time.

Full, associate, junior and life members pay varied subscription rates as decided by the Council but Honorary and corresponding members shall be exempt from the payment of subscription.
Definition of Members & Privileges

Definition of Members & Privileges

  1. Full Member: One duly elected to the Society and paying the annual subscription decided by the Council. He/she has full voting powers. His/her immediate family (spouse and children) and/or one guest are entitled to free entrance to the Emperor Valley Zoo (EVZ) if his/her subscription of $500.00 plus V.A.T. is not in arrears.
  2. Associate Member: One not wishing to be a full member duly elected to the Society and paying the annual subscription decided by the Council. He/she has no voting powers. He/she and one guest are entitled to free entrance to the EVZ if his subscription of $200.00 plus V.A.T. is not in arrears.
  3. Junior Member: One still attending school on a full time basis, duly elected to the Society and paying the annual subscription of $200.00 plus vat so decided by the Council. He/she has no voting powers. Free entrance to EVZ is limited to himself/herself.
  4. Life Member: Any member of the above categories can become a life member on payment of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) plus VAT. He/she is entitled to all the privileges of a full member. Any full member of 15 years good standing is entitled to life membership on written request.
  5. Corresponding Member: One elected by the Council for rendering marked services to the Society through Correspondence. He/she shall be entitled to the privileges of a full member except the right to vote. He/she pays no subscription.

Honorary Membership

The following is an excerpt from Article No. VII of the “Bye-Laws of the Zoological Society of Trinidad & Tobago Inc.”

The Council elects Honorary Members by unanimous vote:
  1. Any person who has rendered distinguished services in the field of Zoology.
  2. Any person who has rendered distinguished public service and who are interested in the Society..
  3. Any persons who have rendered valuable services to the Society.
Honorary Members are entitled to all the privileges of Full Members except the right to vote.
Honorary Membership is for life.

Subscriptions

The annual subscription rates are decided by, and revised at the discretion of the Council.
Subscriptions are due on January 1st of each year. Subscriptions for applications received after August 31st are half rate. A member whose subscription is not paid by June 30th is considered to be “in arrears”.
