World Environment Day 2008

World Environment Day (WED) is recognized on the 5th of June annually. It has been the brainchild of the United Nations (UN) since 1972 for the purpose of bringing global awareness to environmental issues. This year’s theme: ‘Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change’ urges nations to come together in their response to climate change.

This year, the ZSTT/EVZ observed World Environment Day with free entrance to the Zoo, an educational exhibit, informative brochures and free distribution of various seedlings. Visitors were encouraged to adopt more conservative lifestyles and of course, plant a tree! Support for the venture was overwhelming as a number of schools from all over the country attended.
