Visit From Hope Zoo

The Emperor Valley Zoo was pleased to host a visiting delegation from the Hope Zoo in Jamaica on Thursday March 01, 2012. Hope Zoo’s Curator, Mr. Orlando Robinson accompanied by two state Veterinarians, Drs. Gavin Bellamy and Stacey-Ann Jackson met with our own Curator, Mr. Nirmal Biptah and Zoo Veterinarian Dr. Mosi Pottinger.

The focus of the discussions centred on animal exchanges and the zoo upgrade project currently underway to meet international standards. During the visit, the team also met with our Conservation Adviser, Nadra Nathai-Gyan and Board member, Dr. Annmarie Phillip-Hosein.

Mr. Robinson, following a tour of the Zoo was impressed with the new Phase 1 Exhibit and indicated that Hope Zoo is pursuing its own upgrade project, which he hopes would come to fruition in the near future. During the tour, the delegation had the opportunity to “meet” some of the reptiles used for the Zoo’s educational outreach project. Both Curators pledged to continue discussions to the mutual benefit of both Zoos.
