The Emperor Valley Zoo was part of Synergy TV shows “Synergy Nights” and “Friday Night Live” with hosts Jason Williams and Shal Marshall from 22nd -26th November, 2010. A variety of zoo animals were exhibited nightly in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of a number of Trinidad’s fauna as well as exotic species to thousands of viewers both locally and regionally.
Conservation Adviser, Nadra Nathai-Gyan and Zoological Officer, Sharleen Khan of The Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago Inc. (ZSTT Inc.) together with a number of Zookeepers highlighted conservation issues and amazing facts about each animal presented.
The animal ‘stars’ included a tigre, red howler monkey, turtle, tortoise, blue and gold macaw, a porcupine, a great black hawk and an ocelot. Viewers at home even had the chance to witness a 10 feet long albino Burmese python, a species native to southern and southeast Asia and an adorable and most playful, baby mandrill. Mandrills live naturally in the rainforests of equatorial Africa. The final night of the television broadcast was held in the presence of a live audience and persons were given the opportunity to interact with an ocelot, Trinidad’s only wildcat species!
The collaboration between ZSTT Inc. and Synergy TV was surely a success in educating and instilling environmental awareness to the public in an exciting and innovative way.
